A Surrendered Marriage, Day 19

Day 19: Forgiveness

As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. – Psalm 103:12

Father God, thank You for the forgiveness of sins. Thank You for sending Your Son to die on the cross – conquering sin and death. In as much as I have been forgiven, may I learn to forgive my spouse! Lord, help me to understand my depravity, so that when the time comes that I must cast my spouse’s sin as far as the east is from the west, I will not hesitate. Help me to pour out grace and mercy quickly and without delay.

When Did Sabbath Change to Sunday?

The New Testament is totally silent with regard to any change of the Sabbath day or any sacredness for Sunday. There is not one scripture claim it was changed (there are 40 clarifying circumcision).

The adoption of Sunday observance in place of the Sabbath did not occur in the early Church of Jerusalem by virtue of the authority of Christ or of the Apostles, but rather took place several decades later.

In 132 A.D. Bar-Kokhba led a revolt against the Romans. When he was done, 50 percent of the population of Judea was dead and tens of thousands of men and women who remained alive were sold into slavery. Jews were forbidden to set foot in Jerusalem, and the province was renamed Palestine. It was a dangerous time to be identified with the Jews. During this period, the predominate day of worship among Christians gradually began to change from the Sabbath to Sunday. The day changed, in part, because of the need to disassociate the Christian movement from the Jewish nation.

Years later, the Church of Rome: Canon 29, Council of Laodicea, 364 C.E., worried about Judaizing and gave the following statement: “Christians shall not Judaize and be idle on Saturday, the Sabbath, but shall work on that day; but the Lord’s day (Sunday) they shall honor, and as being Christians, shall, if possible, do no work on that day. If, however, they are found Judaizing, they shall be shut out from Christ.” Continue reading

Love Dare for Families – Day 17: Love Promotes Intimacy

Day 17: Love Promotes Intimacy

Today’s Challenge

Determine to guard your family’s secrets (unless they are dangerous to them or to you) and to pray for them. Talk with them, and resolve to demonstrate love in spite of these issues. Really listen to them when they share personal thoughts and struggles with you. Make them feel safe. We don’t need to share every detail of life.

Verses to Memorize

He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends. Proverbs 17:9

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear. 1 John 4:18

If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and I will dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3:20 Continue reading

Thou shalt not worry about messy faces and places.

Thou shalt pray daily for patience, energy and strength.

Thou shalt affirm thy children’s feelings, but be firm with their behavior.

Don’t Get up Early to Read Your Bible

No, I’m serious. If you are a mom to young children, I am sure you can understand what I mean when I say this.

You want to get up early and have some quiet time with your Bible. Five minutes (if you’re lucky to get that long) later, your baby wakens or your toddler scurries out and your quiet time ceases to exist.

Does it matter that you got up a full hour before everyone usually wakes? Nope. Your children (especially those under five) seem to sense when mom is vertical. It’s almost like they can hear the rustling of the pages.

So, since that’s obviously not an option, I have a better one. Continue reading
