Teach Your Children Hebrew!
Have you wanted to teach your children Hebrew, but you were not sure where to start?
I have, and I am so glad to have found a wonderful curriculum that both my children can enjoy.
Using Sarah & David’s The Aleph Bet Program is a great place to start for children of all ages. Since children do so well when learning is set to music, learning the Hebrew alphabet is fun and enjoyable. Even my three-year-old son is dancing to the music and repeating what he’s listening to.
The Aleph Bet Story book has shiny pages full of color. Both my 3yo son and 7yo daughter enjoy holding this book while listening to the accompanying CD. Each lesson teaches a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. One side of the page shows a colorful photo depicting the letter with key images to remember the name and the sound. The opposite page shows you the name of the letter, gives a quick story about
the name or what it is doing. Each letter’s special marks are explained (love the “arms” and legs” and “belly button” descriptions. You can see samples of the Aleph Bet Story book here, as well as listen to some sample songs from the CD here.
The accompanying Aleph Bet Workbook is great for any child old enough to write. Since Hebrew is written and read right to left, there is a wonderful reminder via an arrow on the top part of the page. The child draws a line from right to left, then traces and copies the letter learned that lesson. Underneath, the child fills the letter in the blank to make a word corresponding with the word picture (if the teacher doesn’t read Hebrew, this page on the Sarah & David website will come in handy!). View workbook samples here.
There is also an Aleph Bet Activity Book available. Full of fun activities to solidify what the child has learned, use after listening to the CD and reading along in the story book. This helps the children learn to distinguish the letters from each other using games and puzzles. For example, when learning Hey, the instructions are: “Hey has a broken leg. Trace each Hey. Then put a happy face on Hey and his friends to help them feel better.” Isn’t that cute? You can view sample pages taken from the Activity Book here.
More Than Just the Aleph Bet!
Sarah & David offer more than learning the Hebrew Aleph Bet. They also offer Hebrew Reading Books. My daughter is loving learning the Hebrew alphabet, and will next be learning how to read Hebrew.
If you are learning on the go, check out the Aleph Bet for the iPod.
Podcasts are also available here.
Online video workshops are also offered.
Fun game and activity printables can be found here.

Interesting way to teach!
Oh this looks amazing!! love it love it! If I dont win it going to have to consider buying it anyway…hehe Love to learn Hebrew and my son loves languages right now!
Looks terrific!
I love how book uses mnemonic devices to help remember each of the different letters, like “Hey has a broken leg.” My husband speaks fluent Hebrew, but didn’t learn how to read it as a child. This seems like it would be a great way for anyone– adult or child– to start to learn the basics of Hebrew.
This looks great! I would love to have it.
